About Hexagon Tile

Hexagon tile is geometry doing the design work: six sides that read vintage in small white marble, contemporary in large-format porcelain, and everything between. Mosaicenter's hexagon collection covers more than 100 products, from 1 inch penny-scale hexes through 2 and 3 inch mosaics in marble, glass, ceramic and mixed mosaic sheets, up to statement floor hexagons.

Hexagon Tile Sizes

Small: 1 to 2 Inch

The classic bathroom floor of the 1920s, sheet-mounted for even spacing. Dense grout lines mean natural slip resistance in showers.

Medium: 2 to 3 Inch

The versatile middle: big enough to show stone veining, small enough to wrap curves. The sweet spot for shower floors and feature walls.

Large Format

Oversized hexes lay honeycomb floors that make kitchens and entries architectural. Fewer joints, bolder geometry.

Mixing Scales

Pair a small hex shower floor with a larger hex main floor to zone an open bathroom in one geometry.

Hexagon Tile Materials

Marble Hex

Carrara and Thassos hexagons are the heritage look: white fields, grey veining, timeless bathroom floors.

Porcelain Hex

Matte porcelain hexes bring the pattern to heavy-traffic floors with zero sealing and PEI-rated wear.

Stone Blends

Travertine and limestone hexagons warm the geometry with earth tones and natural texture.

Glass and Color

Glass hexes and colored ceramics turn the honeycomb into the room's color statement.

Best Applications for Hexagon Tile

The Heritage Bath

White 1 or 2 inch marble hex on the floor, subway on the walls, black accents in fixtures: the 1920s formula that never misses in period homes and modern interpretations alike.

Ombre and Flower Accents

Hex sheets mix colors gracefully: fade a floor from white to grey, or set flower clusters of contrasting hexes as inlaid rugs. The geometry welcomes pattern-in-pattern.

Honeycomb Feature Walls

Carrying hexagons up a fireplace or bathroom wall turns tile into wallpaper-scale texture, with grout lines building the pattern.

Kitchen Floors and Entries

Matte porcelain hexagons put the honeycomb underfoot at PEI-rated durability, grounding kitchens and entries with pattern that hides crumbs and wear.

FAQs about Hexagon Tiles

What size hexagon tile is best for a bathroom floor?

One and 2 inch hexes are the classic bathroom scale, sheet-mounted so spacing stays even, with dense grout lines that add grip. Three inch and larger hexes suit bigger bathrooms where you want the geometry readable from the door.

Are hexagon tiles harder to install?

Sheet-mounted hex mosaics install much like any mosaic: full white-thinset coverage and attention at the seams so the pattern stays continuous between sheets. Large individual hexes need layout planning since cut edges land differently than squares.

Are small hexagon floors slippery when wet?

The opposite: all those grout joints act like tread. Small hex mosaics in matte or honed finishes are among the grippier tile floors, which is why they were the standard in early 20th century bathrooms.

How do I plan grout color for hex tile?

Matching grout melts the field into texture; contrasting grout draws every hexagon. White-on-white reads spa-clean, white hex with grey grout reads vintage, and dark hex with dark grout reads dramatic and modern.

Can hexagon tile go on walls?

Yes, and it excels there: hex sheets climb shower walls, backsplashes and fireplaces, delivering honeycomb texture at any height. Plan sheet seams to fall evenly and finish exposed edges with a pencil trim or caulked clean edge.
