Choosing a Porcelain Tile Color
Porcelain takes colour two different ways, and the difference matters more than the shade itself. A glazed porcelain tile carries its colour in a fired surface layer, which allows anything from a flat matte white to a deep saturated blue. A through-body or coloured-body porcelain carries the same colour all the way through the biscuit, so a chip on an edge does not show a pale core. For a floor that will take trolley wheels, pets or an entrance mat full of grit, through-body is the more forgiving choice.
Every colour below is stocked across floor tile, wall tile and backsplash mosaics, and most are available in more than one finish.
Neutrals
White and Beige
White porcelain tile is the single most-specified colour we sell, and it splits into two very different families: crisp optic whites for a modern bathroom, and marble-look whites with grey or gold veining for a floor meant to read as stone. Beige porcelain tile is the warmer alternative, and hides dust and footprints far better than a cool white in a hallway or kitchen.
Gray and Silver
Gray porcelain tile covers everything from pale concrete-look through to mid-tone stone effects, and is the usual pick for a contemporary open-plan floor because it sits comfortably with both warm oak and cool white cabinetry. Silver is the lighter, cooler end of the same family, often with a slight metallic sheen.
Brown and Gold
Brown porcelain tile is where most wood-look planks live — walnut, oak and weathered timber effects that give the warmth of a wood floor in a material you can put in a shower. Gold porcelain tile covers honey and amber marble-look surfaces, and metallic accent pieces for a feature wall.
Statement Colors
Black
Black porcelain tile is used two ways: as a full floor in a small, well-lit room where it reads as expensive rather than dark, and as a contrast — a black hex floor under white subway walls remains one of the most reliable bathroom combinations there is. Matte black shows water spots far less than polished.
Blue and Green
Blue porcelain tile is the colour that has grown fastest in backsplashes and powder rooms, from pale sea glass through to deep navy. Green porcelain tile covers sage, olive and forest tones, and pairs particularly well with brass fittings and unlacquered hardware.
Red, Pink and Yellow
Red, pink and yellow porcelain are specified almost entirely as accents — a niche, a band, a single backsplash — and we hold them in small mosaic and feature formats rather than full floor ranges.
Getting the Color Right Before You Order
- Look at it in the actual room. Colour temperature moves a tile more than the tile moves itself. A warm beige under 2700K downlights is a different tile under north-facing daylight.
- Order a sample. Every product page has a sample option. Screens misrepresent saturation, and marble-look veining in particular never photographs the way it lays.
- Decide the grout at the same time. A matching grout makes a floor read as one surface; a contrasting grout turns the same tile into a pattern. This is a bigger visual decision than most people expect.
- Check the dye lot. Order the whole job at once. Shades shift between production runs, and a box bought three months later may not match.
All colours are sold by the box with a per-square-foot calculator on each product page, so you can order exactly the coverage the room needs.
