To clean pool tiles, you have to get dirt, algae, and mineral deposits off the surface without causing damage. It is advisable to start by brushing/tiling with standard immersed brushes or non greasy scrubbing pads. For better cleaning, a tile soaked in vinegar and water in equal portions works well. Cleaner can be applied to tiles with a sponge and pads or a brush. Stubborn stains can be dealt by using baking soda and pumice stone. Finish off by hosing the tiles with pool water or garden hose to get rid of the remaining cleanser.

Calcium deposits on pool tiles can be removed with the right cleaning technique as one must not damage the tile in question. Light deposits of calcium can be removed with a pumice stone, although it should be limited to porcelain and ceramic tiles only. More stubborn calcium buildups can be softened with vinegar solution or commercial calcium removers made for pool tiles. In extreme cases, pressure washing or bead blasting tiles using glass beads or soda may have to be resorted to, as they may need the surface to be fully restored.

Cleaning swimming pool tiles is similar to cleaning regular pool tiles, but proper maintenance is essential in avoiding buildup. After the dirt and algae are scraped off the tile, the tile must be scrubbed with a soft pool brush at least once a week. Pumice stone, baking powder, and acid based pool cleaners must be used in harsher cases while chlorine and diluted melted muriatic acid solutions can deal with stubborn algae stains. Always use close to neutral soap and rinse the tile thoroughly to ensure residue does not interfere with the chemistry of the pool water.

The first procedure for installing pool tile is preparing the surface. First, make sure it is clean, smooth, and dry. Using a dry set tile adhesive made for pools, utilize a notched trowel. The tiles should be pushed down firmly and spacers added to ensure they stay in place. After the adhesive has set, a waterproof and chemical resistant grout should be put in place. The pool should not be filled with water for 24-48 hours after grouting. This allows the installation to cure completely. Sealing the grout may increase the longevity of the tile as well as prevent stains.
